Over spring break I got the opportunity to go home and watch in my opinion, one of the best sporting events in the country. The Minnesota Sate High School Hockey Tournament is not your normal high school sporting event. The best example I can use is what high school football is to Texas is what high school hockey is to Minnesota. Just the sheer scale of the tournament alone is enough to awe people. The attendance alone for Friday nights session was 22,400. That is for a high school hockey game... Some NHL teams don't even get close to that number. Speaking of NHL, their were a couple of the athletes participating in the state tournament are projected to get drafted in this years NHL Entry Draft. They are barely 18 years old. That's crazy to think about. Also most if not every team in the tournament has at least one division I commitment too. With competition and the scale of the event as high as it is I thought I'd share it.
Here's a good picture to show the scale of the event:

Nate, This is an awesome post! It is incredible that you got to attend this game. I had no idea that Minnesota was so big on hockey. The numbers really surprised me considering it was an interscholastic sporting event. Can you tell us more about your experience? We all would love to hear about it.
ReplyDeleteThank you Dallas! Yeah I really lucked out to be able to go to this event. We are passionate about our hockey in Minnesota, it's why we are called the State of Hockey. I was thinking about posting again about the event, so check back later this week.
DeleteI'm sure the tournament was an unreal experience. I would love to see high school hockey gain that kind of traction in other parts of the country.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds awesome! I would love to go to a hockey event like this. It would be awesome to play in something of that magnitude.
